Job seekers often manage applications across multiple platforms which leads to disorganisation, missed follow-ups and a lack of visibility over progress. Many rely on notes apps or spreadsheets that are difficult to maintain and quickly become outdated. Existing tools are either too basic to be useful or overly complex which creates friction in what is already a stressful process.
I approached Trackd as both a product design challenge and a workflow problem. The process started with mapping the emotional highs and lows of applying for jobs, then translating those insights into a simpler system that reduced admin, surfaced next steps, and made progress feel visible.
From early audits and competitor reviews, I identified the recurring pain points: fragmented information, poor follow-up habits, and uncertainty around what to do next. I used that to shape key flows around adding applications, tracking movement through stages, and prompting timely action. As the design developed, I refined the interface around clarity, lightweight navigation, and reassuring feedback so the product felt calm rather than overwhelming.
Step 1
Explored how graduates track job applications, identifying gaps in organisation, visibility and follow-up consistency.
Step 2
Assessed current tools to understand where they felt too basic, too complex, or emotionally unsupportive.
Step 3
Mapped the core journey from application entry through to status tracking, notifications and outcomes.
Step 4
Designed and refined a clean, responsive UI prioritising clarity, speed and low cognitive load across devices.
Step 5
Refined hierarchy, states, and navigation to make the experience feel immediate, calm, and easy to maintain.
Step 6
Built the application using modern web technologies such as Next.js with Typescript, this allowed for implementing forms, dynamic dashboards and responsive layouts.
Step 7
Integrated Supabase for authentication and data storage, enabling secure user-specific application tracking.
Step 8
Tested across devices and browsers, resolved edge cases (including authentication handling), and deployed the live product.
